I've read a bit of Fanny Burney and Samuel Richardson. . . haven't read The Monk or any of Ann Radcliffe's novels. PG-18, you say? Maybe I shouldn't bother then, though it would probably give me a deeper appreciation of NA. . . :-/

Enbrethiliel - I totally agree with you about Catherine! You're right, she's not as deserving as Anne or Fanny, or as charming and intelligent as Lizzy or Emma, but that's okay! She's just a sweet, lovable, ordinary teenage girl. :-)The Editrixhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01184804847476554759noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7640277016633958889.post-16077565507541048862010-07-19T12:49:36.202+10:002010-07-19T12:49:36.202+10:00+JMJ+

No, she's not as wonderful as Lizzie or as good as Fanny or as deserving of a happy ending as Anne . . . but there's something so endearing about her, flaws and all, that I can't help but root for her.Enbrethilielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03414765854670926854noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7640277016633958889.post-25545157853547128392010-07-17T12:53:48.200+10:002010-07-17T12:53:48.200+10:00NA is even funnier when you read the Gothic novels...NA is even funnier when you read the Gothic novels of the period. I read "The Monk" by Matthew Lewis, and it is quite a "horrid" novel, which should have a PG-18 sticker slapped onto it. However, I understood NA much better and laughed even harder when comparing it to The Monk.Shining as Starshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00688588499307754620noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7640277016633958889.post-15664895123048625652010-07-17T00:30:46.342+10:002010-07-17T00:30:46.342+10:00I LOVE "Northanger Abbey"!!!I LOVE "Northanger Abbey"!!!Elinor Dashwood/Melaniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01233456173816940821noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7640277016633958889.post-47928110898808883872010-07-16T21:40:11.858+10:002010-07-16T21:40:11.858+10:00I love Northanger Abbey!
