Blog makeover!

Check out the new look! I'm still fine-tuning it, but let me know what you think. I'm open to suggestions. Everything's much less cluttered and more streamlined - far less image-heavy, too, so it shouldn't take as long to load. The only thing I miss is Waterhouse's "The Tempest"! (formally my blog header), but I don't know how to incorporate it into the new layout. . . I mean I know how, but I think it would clash with the background and so forth.

Whew! I haven't had this big a makeover since this blog began! It does feel good to de-clutter.

Thoughts?

  1. Wow! This is a major change! I do like the more "streamlined" look but miss the "old-fashioned" touches like Waterhouse's painting.
I was just wondering, how did you come up with the name for your blog "Ribbons of Light"? I guess I wasn't here in the beginning when you started blogging. I do like the look of "Ribbons of Light" reflecting on the sky and water in the background. Aren't blog makeovers fun! :)

  2. Believe it or not, it was actually from this book:

    http://www.amazon.com/Curly-Girl-Handbook-Lorraine-Massey/dp/076115678X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1290318687&sr=1-1

It was talking about dying/colouring hair in one section, and it described lighter streaks in curly hair as looking like "ribbons of light". I guess I just liked the phrase!

I actually wanted to call my blog something quite different when I was setting it up. "Castle in the Mist" or something like that, but the URL was already taken, so I had to think up another title. Somehow, that phrase from that book sprang to mind, and the rest is history! :P

  5. Vellvin, I miss it too!

Gae - yes, in a way I rather liked having all the pictures and bits and pieces, too. . . but it just seemed to be getting a bit overwhelming for me, LOL! Whenever I wanted to tweak something or add something to my sidebar, I found it hard wading my way through all the gadgets and widgets and things. . .

  7. While I did like the old layout, the new one is very fresh and calming, and feels suitably crisp for enjoying the winter up here in the UK! :)

  8. Both layouts are quite attractive! If you wanted to keep the painting at the top though, it's fairly simple to change the background. I think you can even upload an image of your choice to use now.

  14. Yes--I will try to incorporate it back into the layout somehow. I could try using it as my actual background. . .

I like the new design, too. It feels fresher and looks more streamlined. But let me echo Gae's wish that you bring back some of the pictures you had in your old sidebar. They really added to the ambiance of your blog. =)

And there must be a way to bring back your old header image. I really don't think it will clash! But if you decide not to have it back, I'd suggest making your blog name a little darker. The "Ribbons" is almost lost in the pastel background.

    That's all!

  16. I like how this layout is less graphic intense. The background painting is lovely.

But I do find it distracting, since the mountains are darker shades, it pulls my eyes away from the writing.

If you'd like suggestions or need help with coding please let me know and I'd be happy to help.
