Ed Westwick as Heathcliff????

I just checked Wuthering Heights 2010 on IMdB, and guess who has been cast as Heathcliff. . .

ED WESTWICK OF GOSSIP GIRLS FAME!!!

Okay, this is either a brilliant move, or it's just plain terrible - I'm not sure which. This is almost equivalent to casting Zac Efron as Mr. Darcy. . . or Miley Cyrus as Elizabeth Bennet. . . you get my drift? Seriously, if they have to cast a teen heart-throb as Heathcliff, they could at least have picked someone who is actually good-looking. . . like Rob Pattinson. . . :D But Ed Westwick? I'm just not sure about this. . .

However, I'm sure Gemma Arterton (Tess of D'Urbervilles, Elizabeth Bennet in Lost in Austen) will be wonderful as Cathy. It will be interesting to watch as the rest of the cast is unveiled over the next few months. . .

I read about this a few days ago... and my first thoughts were, "I wonder what Elise will say about this..." I didn't have to wait long. ;)

Although I think it would be hilarious to see Miley Cyrus and Zac Efron running around in period dress... :D

LOL!! :-D

Yeah, it's actually pretty old news, apparently. . . I don't know why/how I didn't find out about it sooner. I just happened to stumble across it on IMdB. . .

Miley and Zac! My oh my. . . trying to picture those two in a costume boggles the mind. . . but then, that's what I would have thought about Ed Westwick in WH. . .

Hehe :P

I've never even heard of him before... so I don't have any worries, for the moment that is. :)

Haha! I got the biggest kick out of Zac Efron and Miley Cyrus in P&P!!! LOL. That would be WEIRD.

Anyway, we'll see how this turns out. ;-/

It's not like it would be easy to make Wuthering Heights into a good film anyway! Without cast or director who are experienced in that area, I reckon it's kind of impossible.
Lets stick to the book eh?

[I actually think Ed will do a great job as Heathcliff....cough, did I just say that!?]

LOL, Theresa! Well, there's no harm in hoping for the best. . . ;-)

In the tv adaptation of WH that came out earlier this year, Tom Hardy played Heathcliff. - He didn't really seem to be the kind of actor whom you would expect to see in that kind of role, yet he turned out to be pretty good as Heathcliff (actually, he was the only redeeming aspect of that miniseries - it was a pretty woeful adaptation overall, IMO). I guess my point is - you never know, EW may turn out to be okay as Heathcliff. . .

After I thought about it a while...you never know...maybe he's trying to get into more "older" roles, trying to be taken seriously, you know how that goes. Talk about a leap into it! ;-) I guess it'll be just wait and see.

^True. . . but as you say, it is a big leap! Gossip Girls to Wuthering Heights. . .

Ed is quite a good actor. He strikes me as a good choice for Heathcliff. =)

Well, at least one of us is genuinely optimistic about this casting choice! ;-)

You probably don't watch GG, because if you did, you wouldn't be alarmed. EW's character on GG is just an tamer, more sophisticated version of Heathcliff. Furthermore, EW is actually British [he fakes an American accent for GG].

OMG! Wuthering Heights is my obsession, and I do get a bit protective of it. Basically because it is ''unfilmable'' (excuse the terminology) but I guess you know what I mean. Film makers never, ever get it right. Usually, they mess around with the dialogue and chop loads of the plot out. Emily Bronte loved the eccentricity of the Yorkshire dialect, and the old English that was evident in the novel just gets cast aside in the dramatisation. I know it has to appeal to a wide audience but you have to be a really good director to nail this one, and no-one has done it yet. Biggest issue I have is that they insist on using the adolescent/adult Heathcliff and Cathy too soon in the film... they remain "children" for quite a while into the novel, Cathy is around 15 when Edgar proposes to her, and dies at the tender age of 18 or 19. These dramas have them running around on the moors giggling amongst the heather in their mid to late 20's which seems a bit odd! Get a really good strong boy and girl actor, that can last for at least one quarter of the film, and you're halfway there already. My list of complaints is endless, but I won't go there. As for Ed Westwick...I have never heard of him. Gemma will be good...she was great as Tess. I have reservations about this attempt, but that's because it's a hard nut to crack! One day the world will be ready for it.
