For North and South fans. . .

I recently stumbled upon this North and South fansite - "Foolish Passion". (They're quoting Mr. Thornton - "I hope you realise that any foolish passion for you on my part is entirely over" - from the end of episode 3. You thought, Thornton! But it wasn't really over at all - teehee! :D )

There's a lot of fun stuff on there - make sure you have a look at the North and South humor page - I had bit of a chuckle over the Fitzwilliam Darcy/John Thornton conversation. And some of the goofy quizzes had me in stitches!

Well. . . I just thought I'd let you all know. I know that there are quite a few N&S fans among my readers! ;-)

And if you haven't seen North and South - why on earth haven't you seen it??!!! Buy it! Watch it! It's better than Pride and Prejudice, better than Wives and Daughters, better than Sense and Sensibility - it's better than any other BBC miniseries, for that matter. Trust me, I'm a period drama fanatic! :D

I absolutely love North and South, what a classic!!
Some of my favorite scenes in the movie are the snow scene when Maragaret is in the carriage and Thornton speaks "Look back at me..." Ahh it's too heart wrenching! My other favorite scene is of course the end...the train scene! ;)
Have you seen Bleak House BBC 2005 with Gillian Anderson? It's another all time favorite of mine!

Merry Christmas to you and yours! :)

Blessings,
Miss Jen

Miss Jen--yes, I love the "Look back at me" scene... what an amazing actor RA is!! :-) I haven't seen Bleak House, but I really want to - CharitysPlace.com gave it a great review. . . I'll have to watch it sometime soon! Merry Christmas to you, too! :D

Isabella - what do you mean? You mean you can't buy N&S in New Zealand?

Bother! What a nuisance. . . I buy pretty much all books/dvds/cds online. But what a shame. . . I almost feel like buying a copy then posting it to you!!

If you're really desperate, you could watch it on Youtube - I think the entire series has been posted on there.

Hhmmmmm... I don't know. I think Wives and daughters is better, but I will defer to my new friend. I must watch it again to know for sure. :)

I think Wives and Daughters and North and South are - very different. I know they're based on books by the same author; but they are nonetheless quite different. I just think that N&S reaches greater depths of emotion and drama - I always cry when I watch N&S, but I don't really cry when watching W&D. But they are both very, very good - there's no doubt about that! :-)

Do you have friends or relatives who live in Auckland, perhaps, or some other large city? Maybe you could get them to buy it for you as a birthday present when your next birthday comes around! :D Just kidding . . . but surely it must be available to buy somewhere in NZ?!!

"[North and South is] better than Pride and Prejudice..."

Hah, well I beg to differ. Of course it is entirely possible that the 2004 North and South may be superior to the 1995 Pride and Prejudice - but I don't think it's all that definite. I think they're both so excellent that they should be ranked equally.

Anyway, I'm afraid to say I haven't read either of them - I have made a start on N&S though.

Oh, secondly, I found that site back in July and put it on my blog... heheheh I bet you.

Oh wow, and I've just worked out what miniseries means... mini-series. Because you know, there's two different pronounciations...

min-is-err-ees (the old-fashioned way?)

minee-seer-ees (perhaps exclusively for TV mini-series...)

ROFL!!!

Okay. . . well, I'd say that's fair enough. When I said that N&S is better than P&P, I did indeed mean North and South as opposed to Pride and Prejudice 1995. I have a few reservations about P&P95 as an adaptation of Jane Austen's brilliant novel, which I have discussed before. . . see here and here.

When it comes to the books - there's no question, P&P is a lot better than N&S!!

Perhaps you're right - both movies are so good that they should be ranked equally. I should probably have said in my post that I like North and South better than Pride and Prejudice, rather than saying that it is better than Pride and Prejudice. :D

I have only ever heard miniseries pronounces "minee-seer-ees". :-)

Oh well - in any case, it's nice to come across a guy who can appreciate a good costume drama!! A lot of guys just seem to dismiss P&P because it's a "chick flick" - hehe, they don't know what they're missing out on!! :D

My dad will sit down with me to watch a Jane Austen movie - it's good to know there are other guys out there who can appreciate classic literature (read: Jane Austen ;-) ), and adaptations of said classic literature!
