Emma 2009 cast: Update

Have a look at this press release from the BBC. It announces the casting of:

Jodhi May as Mrs. Weston

Robert Bathurst as Mr. Weston

and Tamsin Greig as Miss Bates.

I am delighted with the casting of Jodhi May as Mrs. Weston. I thought she was amazing - and absolutely beautiful! - as Mirah Lapidoth in Daniel Deronda. As for the other two actors - I can't say I've ever heard of either of them. . . although apparently Robert Bathurst plays one of the characters in an old version of Wind in Willows that I've seen. . . not sure if that really counts, though. Anyways, they both look right, which is good, of course. BUT JONNY LEE MILLER TOTALLY DOESN'T LOOK RIGHT AS MR. KNIGHTLEY!!! *Sulks* Why? Why, why, why did they cast him as Knightley. . . :-(((

Current Mood: Angry

I too am extremely dissapointed in their choice for Mr. Knightly. :( *long deep sigh* Oh well...*sob*

But I think Ramola Garai is a delightful Emma! She has this whimsical way about her. She's hilarious in "As You Like It" and though I didn't like her character in Daniel Deronda, she still did an excellent job!

I really hope this new "Emma" turns out well!

Thanks for the plug for my blog.
I'm still trying to get used to Jonny Lee Miller as Mr. Knightley too. While watching Little Dorrit on Masterpiece Theatre the other night and my dad mentioned that he'd rather see Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Knightley. Seeing him in an older role and one more like Mr. Knightley I almost agree - though I still think the same actor shouldn't get to portray two different Austen heroes.

Ha! Well, JLM is portraying two Austen heroes, why shouldn't MacFadyen??? I agree, I would much rather see Matthew as Knightley. I've just finished watching Little Dorrit - I thought he was lovely as Arthur Clennam. :-)

Jessica - ditto to pretty much everything you said! :-D I absolutely agree, I'm sure Romola will make a delightful Emma.

I didn't like Mr Knightley at first, but by the end I was in love with his character…he and Romola have awesome on-screen chemistry, and he really brings Knightley to life.
