Update on Disney's Rapunzel movie. . .

I don't know if any of you remember, but I posted about this waaaayyy back in December 2008! Well, just to give you a quick update. . .

The title has changed from "Rapunzel Unbraided" to "Tangled". Here's the plot outline:

The long-haired Princess Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but when she falls in love with a bandit who was passing by she must venture into the outside world for the first time to find him

And the trailer has been released! To be honest, I'm very disappointed with it, and I don't think I'm going to like this film nearly as much as I thought I would. It looks like it will be a silly, mildly funny and entertaining flick at best. Oh well. . .

Here's the trailer: (you might want to pause my blog music first. . .)

And you can view several new film stills at IMDb.

I'm still holding out hope that I'll enjoy this film - with Zachary Levi voicing the thief I know I'll be seeing it in theaters. Thanks for posting the trailer!

Does anyone else miss Prince Philip from "Sleeping Beauty"?! Personally, I like my hero to out-do my heroine in courage and swordplay (or hairplay, as the case may be). I don't mean to say that brave, fighting heroines are inherently evil, though. Eowyn from "Lord of the Rings" is courageous and good with a sword - but she wouldn't be able to outduel Faramir. Unfortunately, feminists think it's decidedly un-cool for a woman to courageously hold out until her true love comes to rescue her - so, therefore, movies like that aren't made anymore.

Hydra - oooh, yes! Love Prince Phillip! :-D And I completely agree with you about heroes and heroines!! You've worded so well my own opinions on this topic. At least in LOTR there is Arwen. They had been going to have Arwen fighting in the battle for Helm's Deep, but later edited this out of the film. Liv Tyler later said in an interview that she agreed with the decision - she liked the fact that Arwen was able to be a strong, courageous heroine WITHOUT a sword! Amen! LOL. . .

Miss Jen, thanks so much!

Hmmmmm. I'm not very impressed. =S

It looks like the Shrek movies to me. Now, I liked those for what they were, but I don't think Disney should take a traditional fairytale and go down that route.

And I don't know whether I like Rapunzel turning into a sort of acrobat, either. =(

The filmmakers don't seem to be going for timeless appeal, and I think that is why, fifty years from now, when people are still watching Disney's Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and even Lady and the Tramp (my personal favourite!), nobody will really care for this one.

(Well, I'm sorry to be so pessimistic in your combox, Elise--but I do have lots of positive thoughts about The Voyage of the "Dawn Treader" elsewhere, so I guess everything will balance!)

^Exactly - 4 Shrek movies are MORE than enough! Most of the good Disney movies to have come out in recent years have been Pixar productions! You'd have to go way back to Beauty and the Beast or maybe The Lion King for the most recent Disney classic. . .

At least most of the recent Pixar movies have truly had timeless appeal - Up, Finding Nemo. . .

Your all absolutely right on the point of heroines!
It looks funny! It really does, I showed it to my brothers and we had a good laugh. But he isn't exactly Prince Philip is he...?
